Emergency Medicine Faculty and Resident Wellness

by Michael Elliott, MD, PGY-3

Recently, we gathered together for the Carlos Sandfoss Memorial Wellness event to celebrate the great outdoors of eastern Kentucky, remember the life of a resident ended all too early, and focus on wellness within our residency program. The highlight of the day was reflecting on the strengths of our program and discussing our motivations for our work as emergency medicine physicians. Many residents shared their own personal joys of being trainees at the University of Kentucky and gave stories about the struggles and triumphs of working in our field. Residents capped off the day in fellowship with our attendings, program director, and department chair, hiking to the bridge at the Natural Bridge State Park, and feasting on the finest of local delicacies, Miguel’s Pizza.
